Imagine watching a comedian on TV, telling jokes to the camera with no live audience. He sticks to the script and has to wait for ratings to find out how he did. Now imagine being at a comedy club, watching the same comedian tell the same jokes to an audience. He feeds off of the audience's reactions and with every show his jokes are a little different, based on the laughs he's getting. His shows improve with each performance, until his next TV appearance, when he nails it with a well-tailored set.
Blog comments are like the laughter at a comedy club--they allow bloggers to get real-time feedback on their work. Comments also invite conversations between blogger and audience. Do they always agree? No. But they allow both blogger and audience to feel that they are part of an online community where their opinions matter and their voices can be heard. Comments are what make a blog a blog--without the audience, there would be no conversations, no social interactions, and no online communities. Are there any other comparisons I could make to what comments do for blogs? Your task today: 1. Post your final story to your e-portfolio DO NOT FORGET TO REMOVE YOUR NAME!! 2. Comment on a classmate's blog post. Remember to A+A ( Answer + Associate, Ask, Agree, Or Argue) 3. Write a blog post that invites comments and participation from your blog audience. See the Writing Prompts Page for ideas. 4. Comment on another classmate's blog. |
